Bram Stoker''s Dracula

(1992)
Were it not for the laughable performance of the horribly miscast Keannu Reeves in this film it might have received many more accolades than it did. Seems Francis Ford Coppola has made that mistake more than once. Gary Oldham (one of our favorite actors - How good was he in "The Professional" and the "Fifth Element" (despite the goofy hats) and was just as awesome as the "Count". The movie poster has a pure Gothic black and white look to it with a very nice montage of characters flowing around the images of Oldham and Ryder. Love never dies alright.

Synopsis: Coppola's highly charged view of the vampire classic is visually stunning, heavy on eroticism and violence, and weak in plot and performance. Oldman, in a number of amazing transformations, portrays the deadly bloodsucker as a lonely soul determined to reunite with his lost love, the innocent Ryder. Hopkins cheerfully chews the scenery as nemesis Van Helsing, newcomer Frost is fetching, Reeves is lightweight, and Ryder goes way over the top. Musician Waits is great as bug-eating madman Renfield. Filmed entirely on soundstages with beautiful costumes and some amazing visual effects and sets.
