Charming look at sports history and the Rockford Peaches, one of the teams in the real-life All American Girls Professional Baseball League, formed in the 40s when the men were off at war. Main focus is on sibling rivalry between Dottie Hinson (Davis), the beautiful, crackerjack catcher, and Kit Keller (Petty), her younger, insecure sister and team pitcher. Boozy coach Jimmy Dugan (Hanks) is wonderful as he reluctantly leads the team; he also gets credit for the classic "There's no crying in baseball" scene. Great cast of supporting characters, including sarcastic talent scout Ernie (Lovitz), opinionated, sleazy taxi dancer Mae (Madonna), loud-mouthed Doris (O'Donnell), and shy, homely Marla (Cavanagh). Lots of baseball for the sports fan.
