A boy makes friends with a balloon, "tames" it, and the balloon begins to live a life of its own. It follows the boy to school, to the bus and to church. Boy and balloon play together in the streets of Paris, and try to elude a gang of boys who want to destroy the balloon. Winner of the Best Original Screenplay Oscar but there is no dialogue spoken in the film.
